Getting Unifi for Your New House — Complete Guide
Moving to a new home is exciting, but one of the first things you'll want sorted is your internet connection. Whether you're moving into a brand new development or a pre-owned property, this guide covers everything about getting Unifi set up at your new place.
Apply Before You Move In
Don't wait until moving day to think about internet. Unifi installation typically takes 3-7 working days from application, so we recommend:
- 2-3 weeks before moving: Check coverage and submit your application
- 1 week before moving: Confirm your installation appointment
- Moving day or after: Technician comes to install
This way, you'll have internet ready when you move in — no waiting around with no WiFi!
New Build vs Pre-Owned Property
Brand New Development (Rumah Baru)
- Most new developments in Malaysia are pre-wired for fibre
- TM usually has infrastructure ready in new housing areas
- Installation is straightforward — the fibre port is already in your house
- You may be among the first to apply, so processing can be faster
Pre-Owned / Second-Hand Property
- Check if the previous owner had Unifi — the fibre line may already be there
- If there's an existing line, installation is quicker (sometimes same day)
- If no existing line, a new fibre cable will need to be pulled
- Older properties in some areas may need additional infrastructure work
High-Rise Condo vs Landed House
Apartment / Condo / Flat
- Fibre is usually available through the building's MDF room
- Check with your building management if TM has access
- Some newer condos have fibre pre-installed to each unit
- Installation is typically faster — 1-3 working days
Landed House (Terrace / Semi-D / Bungalow)
- Fibre cable runs from the nearest TM distribution point to your house
- May require outdoor cabling work
- Installation takes 3-7 working days
- For new housing areas, TM may need to activate the port first
