Streamyx Is Being Shut Down — Here's What Every Remaining User Needs to Know
If you've received a notice from TM about copper broadband service termination, you're not alone. TM has been rolling out final notices to all remaining Streamyx and copper-based broadband customers across Malaysia. The message is clear: the copper network is being switched off, and there's no extension.
This guide explains exactly what's happening, what your options are, and how to make the switch to Unifi fibre without any service gap.

What Is the Copper Broadband Phase Out?
TM (Telekom Malaysia) has been running a nationwide programme to decommission its legacy copper telephone network — the same infrastructure that powered Streamyx ADSL broadband for over two decades.
The copper network is being replaced entirely by fibre optic (FTTH — Fibre to the Home). This is part of Malaysia's national broadband infrastructure upgrade under the National Digital Infrastructure Plan (JENDELA).
What this means for you:
- Your Streamyx or copper-based broadband will be permanently terminated
- Your copper telephone line (fixed line voice) may also be affected
- There is no option to stay on copper — the infrastructure is being physically removed
- You must migrate to a fibre-based service or find an alternative
Who Is Affected?
You are affected if you are currently on any of these services:
- Streamyx (ADSL broadband over copper)
- Unifi Basic (older copper-based Unifi packages, not fibre)
- TM fixed-line voice only (in areas where copper is being removed)
- Any TM broadband plan that is NOT fibre-based
How to check: Look at your TM bill. If your plan says "Streamyx", "ADSL", or if your monthly speed is 1Mbps, 4Mbps, or 8Mbps — you are on copper.
If your plan says "Unifi Home" with speeds of 100Mbps or above, you are already on fibre and are not affected.
When Will My Line Be Cut?
TM has been sending notices in phases by area. The timeline varies by location:
| Phase | Areas | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 (completed) | Selected urban areas in KL, Selangor, Penang | Already terminated |
| Phase 2 (ongoing) | Suburban areas, secondary towns | Notices being sent now |
| Phase 3 (upcoming) | Rural areas, remaining coverage zones | 2026 |
If you received a notice: Your termination date is printed on the letter. Do not ignore it — once the date passes, your service stops and there is no grace period.
If you haven't received a notice yet: Your area may be in a later phase, but migration is still recommended now. Waiting until the last minute means competing with thousands of other customers for installation slots.
What Are Your Options?
Option 1: Upgrade to Unifi Fibre (Recommended)
This is the most straightforward path. If fibre is available at your address — and for most areas where copper is being phased out, it is — you can upgrade directly.
Benefits of upgrading now:
- Speeds 10–100x faster than Streamyx (100Mbps to 2Gbps vs 1–8Mbps)
- More stable connection — fibre is not affected by rain, distance, or line quality
- Lower latency — better for video calls, gaming, streaming
- Future-proof — fibre infrastructure will last decades
- Current promotions: FREE 3 months on Home plans
Unifi Home Plans (2026):
| Plan | Speed | Monthly Price | vs Streamyx |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home 100Mbps | 100/50 Mbps | RM89/mo | ~12x faster |
| Home 300Mbps | 300/50 Mbps | RM129/mo | ~37x faster |
| Home 500Mbps | 500/100 Mbps | RM149/mo | ~62x faster |
| Home 1Gbps | 1000/500 Mbps | RM249/mo | ~125x faster |
Most Streamyx users were paying RM60–RM110/month for 4–8Mbps. Upgrading to Unifi Home 100Mbps at RM89/month gives you dramatically better speeds for a similar or lower price.
Option 2: Unifi Air (If Fibre Is Not Available)
If fibre hasn't reached your address yet, Unifi Air (fixed wireless broadband) is TM's alternative. It uses a rooftop antenna to receive wireless signal instead of a cable.
- Unifi Air 30Mbps: RM79/month
- Unifi Air 100Mbps: RM109/month
Still significantly faster than Streamyx, and available in areas where fibre hasn't been laid yet.
Option 3: Mobile Broadband (Last Resort)
If neither fibre nor Unifi Air is available at your address, mobile broadband (using a 4G/5G router) is a temporary option. However, this is generally not recommended as a permanent home internet solution due to data caps and inconsistent speeds.
